According to reports, Robert Downey Jr. called Johnny Depp on FaceTime to congratulate him on the outcome of the Amber Heard trial.
After a six-week legal battle, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor won his defamation case against his ex-wife on June 1.
Depp received $10 million (£8 million) in compensatory damages as well as $5 million (£4 million) in punitive damages after the jury found in his favor.
The New York Post claims that Depp and his companions celebrated the decision in a hotel, where he shortly after received a FaceTime call from his former friend Robert Downey Jr.
The actor’s representative confirmed to The New York Post that the pair spoke on FaceTime after the verdict announcement and that the Iron Man star reportedly exclaimed to Depp, “John, thank God it’s over.”
Given that they both rose to popularity at the same time, Depp and Downey Jr. are rumored to be lifelong pals.
Depp was spotted performing onstage with his pal Jeff Beck at a show in Sheffield after the judgment. Since the judgement in his case was made public, the guitarist has invited Depp as a special guest twice while on tour in Europe.
On June 15, when their collaborative album “18” will be released, the duo is now scheduled to perform at the Montreux Jazz Festival.
Heard will speak in her first TV interview since the decision and call social media’s portrayal of the trial “unfair” in the meantime.
An excerpt of the actress’ conversation with Savannah Guthrie of NBC Today was recently made available.
In the video, Heard is heard saying, “I don’t care what anyone thinks about me or what judgements you want to make about what happened in the privacy of my own home, in my marriage, behind closed doors.
“I don’t think the typical person ought to be aware of those things. I don’t take it personally because of that. However, even if you believe that I am lying and that I am deserving of all of this hate and animosity, you still couldn’t look me in the eye and claim that you believe social media has provided a fair depiction of me. You cannot claim that you believe this to be fair.
Heard, who is currently appealing the trial’s ruling, filed a countersuit against Depp, alleging that his attorneys had slandered her. The actress received $2 million (£1.6 million) in damages from the jury.
