At the 2022 Video Music Awards (VMAs), Nicki Minaj will win MTV’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
On Sunday, August 28 at 8:00 PM ET, the 2022 MTV VMAs will be broadcast live from New Jersey’s Prudential Center, where the Pinkprint rapper will make his first appearance at the ceremony since 2018. This year, Nicki Minaj, who has previously been nominated for a VMA 17 times and has won five times, is also up for “Best Hip Hop” for her collaboration with Lil Baby on the tune “Do We Have A Problem?”
Nicki will soon be able to add Beyoncé, Madonna, Rihanna, Missy Elliot, Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, and Britney Spears to the list of notable musicians who have previously received the Video Vanguard Award, which recognizes artists for their contributions to the art form of the music video.
According to Bruce Gillmer, chief content officer of music at Paramount+ and head of music and music talent at Viacom, “Nicki has broken barriers for women in hip-hop with her variety and unique artistry.” “With her worldwide appeal, genre-defying style, and continued commitment to being unashamedly “Nicki,” she has changed the music industry and solidified her reputation as a global superstar.”
The news is released as Nicki prepares to release her brand-new song, “Super Freaky Girl,” on Friday (August 12). Nicki gave her Barbz the alternatives of “Nick James,” “He Want a Freaky Girl,” and “Super Freaky Girl” when she stumbled into what appeared to be copyright concerns with the song’s original moniker, “Freaky Girl.” The latter was chosen by the audience, and on August 4 the single’s cover art was presented.
Nicki Minaj posted on Instagram, “PreSave #SuperFreakyGirl now.” “We appreciate the almost 200k votes, however we are unable to use the names freak or freaky girl due to legal restrictions. You have to deal with this. I adore you.
