Caroline Manzo: ‘The View’ host Barbara Walters ‘offended’ me backstage
Caroline Manzo felt betrayed by Barbara Walters when she appeared on “The View” over a decade ago.
“Barbara Walters was there at the time, and she walks into the green room next door to mine to say hello to a guest and ‘Thank you for coming on the show,’ and I’m like, ‘Barbara’s coming in!'” the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star recalled. Barbara has arrived!”
“Barbara never showed,” Manzo told Page Six’s Evan Real and Danny Murphy during the live taping of the “Virtual Reali-Tea” podcast on Thursday at The Loft at City Winery in New York City.
Because of reality TV’s “lowbrow” position at the time, the former reality star, 61, claimed she understood why Walters “couldn’t be bothered” to welcome her and her co-stars backstage.
Her viewpoint shifted when she learned that the other guest on that day’s show was a “woman who wrote a book on being a professional mistress.”
“You can’t be bothered, but look who you’re greeting, and you’re not coming to greet me next door?” And that offended me,” Manzo continued.
Manzo then joined the journalist and her co-hosts at the ABC talk show’s iconic table, where she was probed about her son Chris Manzo’s intention to build a strip club car wash.
“‘Well, your son wants to build a strip club car wash,’ they say to me. ‘How do you feel about that?’ ‘What do I think of it?’ I ask. Show me an 18-year-old with this kind of business spirit. “Show me an 18-year-old who is brave enough to do what they want and has the courage to take a risk in order to do what he wants,” the former “Housewife” recalled.
Caroline said that she is still willing to “cut the ribbon if [Chris, now 34] ever opens a strip club car wash.”
“I just looked at them as if to say, ‘What are you trying to say?'” He could be playing video games or doing nothing all day, but he’s thinking and ambitious,” she explained.
The host of the YouTube cooking show “Food, Love, and Chaos” had at least one of the “View” ladies on her side, claiming that Joy Behar gave her a nudge as if to say, “Good for you.”
Walters died in December 2022, at the age of 93.
