On September 6, the Venice Film Festival will organize a Ukrainian Day, which will include a series of talks and meetings to promote war-torn Ukraine and its film industry.
The Venice Biennale foundation, with this event, which follows a comparable initiative on the Lido last year, “reaffirms its solidarity with the Ukrainian people and the tragedy they are experiencing.” It follows on from similar initiatives conducted by the Biennale to promote Ukraine during its visual arts and architecture sections.
Ukrainian Day at the Venice Film Festival will be place at the Venice Production Bridge’s Spazio Incontri at the Hotel Excelsior. It will begin with an introduction by Biennale President Roberto Cicutto and artistic director Alberto Barbera.
The first panel, titled “The Ukrainian Film Industry During the War,” will feature Marina Kuderchuk, head of Ukraine’s state agency for cinema, giving an update on the situation.

It will be followed by another panel titled “Filming With Ukraine: Support and Cooperation” and feature several producers: Artem Kolyubaev, who is chief of the country’s cinematography council; Viktoria Yarmoshchuk, who heads the Ukrainian motion picture association; Serhiy Lavrenyuk, who heads the Ukrainian film industry association; Andriy Nogin who, besides being a producer, leads the NGO UkrKinoFest; and director Philippe Azoulay. Volodymyr Ostapchuk, an actor, producer, and Ukrainian television celebrity, will moderate both panels.
“Forever-Forever” (“Nazavzhdy-Nazavzhdy”) by Ukrainian first-time director Anna Buryachkova premieres at Venice’s Horizons Extra segment this year, only two months before the city faced Russia’s full-scale offensive war against Ukraine.
