Gunfire broke out during a home party in Catawba County, North Carolina, early Sunday, killing one person and injuring at least eleven others, according to authorities.
According to a social media statement from the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened at a house in Mountain View, around 60 miles northwest of Charlotte, at around 12:45 a.m.
“According to our investigation, the attack involved multiple shooters. We are still trying to figure out how they got there, when they got there, and why they were there. Additionally, their motivation,” Catawba County Sheriff’s Department Maj. Aaron Turk stated during a press conference on Sunday afternoon.

Turk stated that investigators were still processing the crime scene, which was estimated to be two acres in size, for evidence. To a reporter’s question about the number of shots fired during the incident, Turk responded, “As I stand here, more than 80 shots were fired.”
According to Turk, the shooting started at a house where a gathering with up to 100 guests was taking place.
According to him, the shooting happened over two hours after deputies responded to a noise complaint at the same property. According to Turk, partygoers obeyed the deputies’ orders to turn off the music.

According to Turk, detectives have not found any evidence linking the shooting to the previous noise complaint.
Following many 911 calls reporting multiple shootings, Catawba County sheriff’s deputies and officers from the neighboring Hickory Police Department responded to the residence, according to Turk.
According to Turk, one of the shooting victims was declared dead at the site.
The man slain in the incident was Shawn Patrick Hood, 58, of Lenoir, North Carolina, according to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.
According to officials, several of the 11 other injured were still in the hospital, and one was in critical condition.
As of yet, no arrests have been reported. At a press conference on Sunday afternoon, Catawba County Sheriff Donald G. Brown II stated that investigators from the Hickory Police Department, special agents from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the FBI, and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives were at the scene of the shooting in an effort to determine the cause of the deadly violence and identify the perpetrators.
“I want everyone to know that we are going to work together tirelessly and diligently to identify the individuals who are responsible for this act,” Brown stated.
Many of the partygoers were local high school students, witnesses said ABC Charlotte affiliate station WSOC.
“Everyone began to disperse, lower our heads, and dash for our automobiles and safety as soon as I heard the gunfire. When I called my friend, he advised me to dial 911. One of the adolescent partygoers told WSOC, “I need help.”
