The Weeknd has spoken up about the “terrifying” moment when he lost his voice onstage.
The Canadian singer-songwriter, real name Abel Tesfaye, was performing Can not Feel My Face at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles last September when he abruptly stopped and exited the stage. He later returned to inform that he was having vocal problems and would have to cancel the show.
In an interview with W magazine released on Monday, The Weeknd explained that he lost his voice because he was also filming scenes for the upcoming HBO series The Idol, in which he plays self-help guru Tedros.
“I had to change out of The Weeknd’s outfit, put on Tedros’ wig, shoot with Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp), then change back into The Weeknd.” “It was difficult to transition from one head to another,” he said. “Then, following the concert, I lost my voice.” There was no voice at all. That has never occurred before. My belief is that I forgot how to sing since I was portraying Tedros, a character who is unable to sing. I could be reading too much into this, but it was horrifying. I have never missed a show as The Weeknd. I have performed while suffering from the flu. I am going to die on that stage. But something really intricate was going on in my thinking at the time.”

The Weeknd also mentioned claims that production on The Idol, the drama series he co-created with Reza Fahim and Sam Levinson, had been hampered by troubles.
Instead, the celebrity claimed that the decision to reshoot and rewrite portions of the show was correct.
“Remaking The Idol was a challenge, and in the end, I sacrificed my health and my home to make it work.” Let us say it comes out and it is f**king awful. “I still know I gave it my all,” the 33-year-old said. “From what I have seen so far, the show is fantastic.” Everything is a risk: When you have done your best, that is what I call a happy ending… And I regained my voice.”
