Sinéad O’Connor’s most recent social media post provided fans with insight into her mental challenges since her son Shane committed himself at the age of 17 in 2022.
O’Connor, who died on Wednesday at the age of 56, said on July 17 from a now-deleted Twitter account she founded, “Been living as undead night creature since.” He was my life’s love, the light of my soul. We were two parts of one soul. He was the only person who ever truly loved me. Without him, I’m lost in the bardo.”
The Irish musician announced his death in a series of tweets at the time.
“Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the light of my life, chose to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God.” May he rest in peace and that no one follows in his footsteps. My child. I adore you to pieces. “Peace, please,” she wrote.

On July 8, O’Connor posted a video of her residence, referring to the emotional toll her son’s death had taken on her.
“I look like s— either way, which is why I didn’t want to make a video… but you know, the way your kid unfortunately passing away, it isn’t good for one’s body, or soul to be fair,” she stated in the video, according to TMZ.
Three days later, she posted a more upbeat message on Facebook, in which she updated followers on new music.
O’Connor stated that she had returned to London and was currently working on an album. She also stated that she would be “hopefully touring” in 2024 and 2025.
“Hello Everyone, I recently returned to London after a 23-year absence.” I’m overjoyed to come home:) My album will be finished soon. Release date is set for early next year:) Hopefully, I’ll be touring Australia and New Zealand by the end of 2024. Beginning in early 2025, Europe, the United States, and other territories:) “#TheBitchIsBack,” she said.

O’Connor made a name for herself in the music industry with her No. 1 song “Nothing Compares 2 U,” which was written and performed by Prince. Prior to her death, she had recorded ten albums, the most recent of which being 2014’s I’m Not Bossy, I’m the Boss.
The singer became well-known for her activism and was honest about her spirituality as well as her mental health difficulties over the years.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad,” her family said in an RTE statement. “Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy during this very difficult time.”
